GREEN FOODS/SUPERFOODS Green foods are often referred to also as super-foods due to their nutritionally dense nature. Green foods supply us with abundant vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and anti-oxidants, as well as being alkalinising and cleansing for the body. Green foods are chlorophyll-rich. Chlorophyll gives plants their green colour due to the process of photosynthesis whereby plants use the suns energy for fuel. Chlorophyll is cleansing and regenerating for the blood, helping to build new blood cells while also detoxifying the body. Green foods are the perfect food for those who feel they aren’t getting the nutrients that they need from their diet; for those who want an easily assimilated form of concentrated nutrients; and those who need a gentle detox for their bodies. Spirulina is a blue-green algae which is nutrient dense and energising. Spirulina is considered a “whole food” as it is very rich in vitamins – especially B vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants, protein, and essential fatty acids. Chlorella is an algae which contains large amounts of chlorophyll, and is a great source of B vitamins, minerals, protein, and essential fatty acids. Because of the high chlorophyll content, Chlorella is very good for cleansing and alkalinising the body. Barley Grass is taken from the grass of the barley grain, and provides us with a wide range of nutrients including vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and essential fatty acids. Barley grass reduces acidity in the body, is rich in anti-oxidants, and works to cleanse and nourish the blood. Wheat grass Wheat grass is nutritionally very similar to barley grass. Wheat grass is taken from the grass of the wheat grain, and is also rich in many nutrients including vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and essential fatty acids.
